My shell is called a tulip snail, or Tulip shell is the common name for two or three species of large, predatory, subtropical and tropical sea snails from the Western Atlantic. These species are in the genus Fasciolaria. They are marine gastropod mollusks in the family Fasciolariidae, the spindle shells, tulip shells and their allies.
The shell is found normallly on the north carolina coast and also the gulf coast of texas, It is also found in the west indis and brazil. The shell has a fusiform outline with a smooth surface and shows fine growth lines. It is mostly white to tan in color and has rows of darker brownish blotchs all over. The shell of an adult tulip snail can be from 2.5" to 9.5" long. My shell is 5.5" long
